Our community. Our responsibility.

Since its establishment, Sree Renga Hospital has continually engaged and partnered with the various sections of the community, in educating and empowering them on the path towards a better quality of life. Through its own affiliate, the Chengalpattu Diabetic Care and Research Centre, the hospital has been at the forefront of raising the awareness of diabetes and conducting free screening camps – both in-house and via outreach programs – in the one hundred villages surrounding Chengalpattu. To date, more than 60,000 people have been screened for free.

Awareness campaigns on healthful living: Sree Renga Hospital is an ardent advocate of proactively inculcating healthful habits and practices. Programs tailor-made for the general public, for students (school/college) and for paramedics are periodically hosted by SRH.

For the public: Through indigenously conceptualized puppet shows, live demo sessions of healthy cooking — customised to native dietary preferences, student rallies, poster sessions, speech and essay contests, the hospital educates the different segments of the society on proactively warding off illnesses.

For students: The successful institution and mentoring of student-run Diabetes Education Clubs in the 200 government-run and –aided schools and colleges in the district of Kancheepuram is a pioneering initiative that the hospital is proud to have nurtured. This was the first initiative of its kind in the state of Tamil Nadu.

For paramedical personnel: Over the years, SreeRenga Hospital has also voluntarily trained scores of Integrated Child Services Workers and Village Health Nurses in the essentials of diabetology. In turn, these ambassadors take the message of healthful living into the battlefield.

All, to increase the stickiness of the message that prevention is better than cure.

Free blood screening for diabetes camps: Delivering quality healthcare to the under-privileged sections of the society has been a founding principle of the institution. SreeRenga Hospital regularly partners with leading NGOs such as the Lions Club International in conducting diabetes screening camps in schools, colleges, private institutions and in the communities around Chengalpattu. Over the last three years, the organisation has reached out to and screened more than 9500 people living predominantly in the villages of Kancheepuram district, for their propensity to diabetes and related ailments of the heart, eye (cataract, retinopathy), foot and kidneys. Detecting and treating the abnormalities early has helped reduce the clinical and economic burden at the population level and even saved many lives. To date, more than 60,000 people have been screened for free.
